“Reilly and Kurt have captured the perfect method of storytelling for the digital age of comics. Reilly’s always-excellent storytelling only excels when he controls the way your eye sees the panels. POWERPLAY is all about slacker superheroes who aren’t even superheroes and I can’t wait to see where they take it!”
—Fabian Nicieza (X-Men, ROBIN)

Who’s ready for NYCC???
I’ll be in Artist’s Alley at table N2, taking commissions and selling prints as usual, but the big news for me at Comic Con this year will be…
POWER PLAY’S COMIN’ OUT!

After working on it for what feels like forever, the first issue of me and Kurt Christenson’s creator-owned comic Power Play will be released on Comixology on Wednesday, October 12th!  It costs $1.99, but will be on sale on the release date and through Comic Con (13th-16th) for $0.99, so make sure to get it while it’s hot!
We’ll be all over the convention promoting it, and there may even be an appearance by Gowanus Pete himself.

Keep up with the Power Play blog at http://www.powerplaycomic.com and the Comixology homepage at http://www.comixology.com for more information.

I’m so excited to finally be getting some creator-owned stuff out there, and really excited to be doing it in this new digital medium, with all the new storytelling tricks to play around with!  Have you seen the preview yet?  http://www.comixology.com/digital/12727/Power-Play
Please check it out to see what I’ve been doing, and leave a comment or give a rating to let other people know what you think. Since this is an independent comic, you’ll never have a better chance to support me and Kurt with what we’ve been doing!

Check out some of the things other comics pros have been saying about it—

"BLAM! This is the kind of comics I want to read! Fast, fun, clever, goofy, and really well drawn! Like the boy said, "Please, sir, I want some more!"
—Chris Burnham (BATMAN INC, OFFICER DOWNE)

"Power Play has got a winning hand of high-octane action and clever character work, along with the best use of the digital medium in a superhero comic I’ve ever seen."
—Fred Van Lente (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, INCREDIBLE HERCULES)

"A cross between Teen Titans and Entourage, Kurt Christenson and Reilly Brown celebrate 21st Century geek-chic with POWER PLAY, the next best thing in young-adult superhero comics!"
—Dean Haspiel (BILLY DOGMA, BORED TO DEATH)

"Power Play spares no panels getting straight to the action, and maintains a fast clip throughout. In just one issue, Christenson and Reilly introduce an ensemble cast of unique and charming characters with seemingly little effort. Reilly is doing the work of his career, and seems to be channeling some kind of manga mastery at the moment, something I never recognized in his art before. And if all that wasn’t enough, you can’t beat Gowanus Pete."
—Paolo Rivera (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, DAREDEVIL)

"Reilly and Kurt have captured the perfect method of storytelling for the digital age of comics. Reilly’s always-excellent storytelling only excels when he controls the way your eye sees the panels. POWERPLAY is all about slacker superheroes who aren’t even superheroes and I can’t wait to see where they take it!"
—Fabian Nicieza (X-Men, ROBIN)

Another pic from my new comic POWER PLAY.

The main character of the story’s name is Mac, and the past few pics have all been him.  So far we’ve seen him turn into concrete, electricity, and in this pic, beer.

Kind of begs the question— what would you turn into if you could be made out of ANYTHING?

Anyway, if you’re interested in checking out more about the comic, head on over to http://www.comixology.com/ and check out the FREE preview.  Just search for POWER PLAY.

Also, if you’re at the San Diego Comic Con this weekend, look me up in Artist’s Alley!  I’ll be at EE-06

Hope to see you there!

For anyone interested in more infor about my new creator-owned comic, Power Play, here are some links you can check—

First of all, you can download the first free preview issue right now through Comixology— http://www.comixology.com/ (did I mention it’s free?)

We chose to go through them because they have a kick ass digital comic book reader (they’re the guys who programmed Marvel and DC’s apps, after all, so they know what they’re doing!) and we wanted to really push the limits of what is possible to do currently with the comic medium.  We wanted to play around a little and see what kind of fun new tricks we could use with digital comics that we couldn’t use with the more traditional print comics.

Also, you can follow my writer on this, Kurt Christen, on his tumblr account here— http://agentfenris.tumblr.com/

And also on our official Power Play account here—http://powerplaycomic.tumblr.com/

And, of course, there’s more info on my Deviant Art Page here— http://reillybrown.deviantart.com/

Power Play is the creator-owned book I’ve been working on for the past few months with my writing partner, Kurt Christenson, and I’m excited to say that a free preview will be going live on Comixology on Wednesday, 7/20/11. Check it out here— http://www.comixology.com/ Or through Comixology’s super-awesome app on whatever digital device you prefer (iPod, Android, etc).

Everyone’s been talking about how the future of comics is digital, but we’re actually taking the plunge, making a comic that is primarily designed to be read on a digital platform.
We’re playing around with some storytelling techniques that simply aren’t possible in the print medium, and just giving it a shot to see what kind of comics are possible in the 21st century.

Our story revolves around Mac, a college student in NYC who suddenly finds himself with superpowers.  Does he try to fight crime? Maybe try to take over the world? Maybe put his underwear on the outside just for fun? NO! He he joins the Power Play Games, a full contact, extreme sports league with other people with strange powers and remarkable abilities!
This preview will introduce you to Mac, The Ice Queen, Gowanus Pete and others, and take you on a quick tour of the world of Power Play.

So, please keep an eye out on Wednesday, and help spread the word!
